THE SOS PLANET EXHIBITION AT LIEGE RAILWAY STATION IS THE CULTURAL EVENT OF THE AUTUMN
Following on from “Tout Hergé”, “Tout Simenon”, “I was 20 in’45”, “Made in Belgium” and “Leonardo da Vinci, the European Genius”, in
the magnificent setting of Guillemins railway station, the Collections et Patrimoines and Europa 50 teams are launching “SOS PLANET” -
the biggest exhibition ever held on the theme of global warming. The aim is to assess the situation, identify plausible approaches for the
future of the planet and raise public awareness of the climate issues of the future.
The exhibition
At the dawn of the 21st Century, leading scientific experts are concerned about the future of a sick planet. Climate imbalances and
natural disasters are disrupting economic growth projections and placing a heavy burden on future development prospects. Without
being melodramatic, the time has come to ask the right questions in an attempt to prepare a realistic diagnosis and focus the debate
on solutions. The exhibition has been created on the basis of reports by the IPCC and under the scientific management of Jean-Pascal
van Ypersele, Vice-Chair of the IPCC. Close links have also been formed with the University of Liège, the Nicolas Hulot Foundation and
Yann Arthus Bertrand.
A PRESTIGIOUS VENUE
By choosing Liège’s new railway station, the organisers have opted for a prestigious venue, a strong symbol to reflect the ambitious aims of this event. This station represents the revival of rail travel, an excellent sustainable method of transport. At the heart of the North- European high-speed rail network, Liège’s station will be a gathering point for visitors from all over Europe.
A SPECTACULAR DISPLAY
The exhibition uses cutting edge technologies and spectacular objects and documents, as well as a wide range of showcases and animated films, all with the aim of reaching out to visitors and raising their awareness.
